Our client faced a major bottleneck in their operations due to an aging on-premise server. The system could only support five concurrent users, significantly impacting productivity. The server housed key enterprise applications, and its slow performance led to frequent delays, affecting overall business efficiency.

With increasing downtime risks and hardware maintenance costs, the client sought a modern, scalable solution to meet their operational needs.

Our Solution: Migrating to AWS for Scalability & Reliability

When the client approached us, we conducted an in-depth assessment of their infrastructure and business requirements. After evaluating various options, they opted for an AWS Lift-and-Shift Migration to modernize their environment with minimal disruption.

Step-by-Step Migration Process

Initial Assessment & Planning
- Conducted a detailed analysis of the existing server’s resource usage, storage, and dependencies.
- Presented multiple cloud migration strategies; the client chose Lift-and-Shift due to its speed and minimal application modifications.
Data Backup & Pre-Migration Setup
- Performed a full backup of the existing server to ensure no data loss.
- Installed AWS Application Migration Agent to facilitate a seamless transition.
Server Migration Execution
- Given the client’s network constraints and outdated hardware, the migration took 16 hours to complete.
- Post-migration, we deployed a test instance to validate data integrity and ensure all applications were functioning correctly.
Test Cutover & Go-Live
- After successful testing, we scheduled the final cutover over the weekend to minimize business disruption.
- On Monday morning, we reconfigured their VPN settings to connect all users to the new AWS-hosted server.
Optimization & Cost Reduction
- To optimize costs, we recommended an AWS Reserved Instance with a 1-year commitment, significantly reducing cloud expenses.
